The Supreme Lord is self-sufficient. He does not require anything from us and neither our service. If He so desires, He can produce millions of living entities through His energies. It is because Krishna is so kind and merciful that He gives everyone the opportunity to serve Him, as though He required the service of His devotees. He is perfect in Himself. However, if we give Him service wholeheartedly and sincerely, then, by His mercy, we shall make advancement. Basically Krishna wants our love and our interest. And as per our love towards Him, He reciprocates.

Chandan Yatra is one such opportunity to engage lovingly in the service of the Lord. During this festival, to beat the blazing heat of the summer, the Lord’s body is anointed with sandalwood paste. Only once in a year devotees get this special darshan of Sri Prahlada Narasimha in Chandan Alankara. Starting from Ekadashi till the day before of Narasimha Jayanti, Lord will give darshan in Chandan Alankara.

Sri Narasimha Kavacha Mantra

Pray to Lord Narasimha for protection by chanting the Narasimha Kavacha Stotra. This is a prayer from the Brahmanda Purana, formerly spoken by Prahlada Maharaja. It is said that one who chants this mantra is bestowed with all opulence and can be elevated to the heavenly planets. One should first meditate on the transcendental form of Lord Narasimha (as described in verses 3 to 6 of Narasimha Kavacha Stotra) and pray to Him for our protection.

It is said that the Narasimha Kavacha Stotra is the king of all mantras. One who chants this becomes free from all sins. It removes all evil influences in the family and drives away the ghostly disturbances. Whatever one desires in this world can be definitely attained if one chants this mantra regularly as per the procedure with a pure heart. All the diseases (especially those of abdomen) will vanish and he will achieve victory in all his endeavors.

Sages visit Vaikuntha: Once upon a time, the great sages, Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana and Sanatkumara visited Vaikuntha. There are seven gates in Vaikuntha loka and when the sages tried to enter the seventh gate, the door keepers, Jaya and Vijaya stopped them by blocking the way with their staff, and thereby offended the sages. The sages cursed them to take birth in the material world. The door-keepers repented for their mistake.

Jaya and Vijaya cursed: At that time, Supreme Lord Vishnu, appeared there and informed that the punishment given by the sages was actually ordained by Himself. The door-keepers, Jaya and Vijaya would take birth in a demoniac family and they would be firmly united with Him in thought through

Sri Narasimha Jayanti is the appearance day of Lord Narasimha, the half-lion half-man incarnation of Supreme Lord Krishna, who appeared to protect Prahlada from his demoniac father Hiranyakashipu.

Hiranyakashipu received a special benediction from Lord Brahma that he could not be killed by any human being, demigod or animal or any other entities; he could not be killed by any kind of weapons, neither during day nor night. So, the Lord appeared in half-man half-lion form and killed him with His nails at twilight, thus satisfying all the conditions.

Narasimhadeva appeared at dusk on the Shukla Chaturdashi (fourteenth day of the bright fortnight) in the month of Vaishakha (May). Devotees fast till dusk on this day.
